Our award-winning productions help schools create safer and more positive environments for their students, by addressing issues such as bullying, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, academic stress, eating disorders, family relationships, violence, harassment, resilience, decision-making, risk-taking, cyber safety and online ethics.
Each show is developed by our passionate team of creatives, teachers and psychologists, and are based on current knowledge in the fields of education, cyber safety and mental health. Scripts are constantly updated to ensure content is relevant and challenging for our audiences.
- Full-time employment for the duration of the contract (7-9 months), plus holiday pay, leave loading, superannuation contributions, and tax free living away from home allowance when away from your base city.

We provide our actors with extensive industry-based training, including WH&S, mental health and wellbeing, social media, professional conduct and managing student disclosures.

Essential criteria
• Must be at least 19 years old
• Playing range of 16-24
• Current drivers licence and good driving record (Learners licence not sufficient)
• Fit, healthy and able to travel away from home
• Energetic and responsible
Some singing, physical theatre and dance experience an advantage.
Audition Dates for our 2020 Season
Brisbane: Mon 11th November, 2019 with callbacks on Tues 12th November 2019.
Melbourne: Fri 15th & Sat 16th November 2019, with callbacks on Mon 18th November 2019.
Sydney: Tues 19th & Wed 20th November 2019, with callbacks on Thurs 21st November 2019.
Please note: If you are a student graduating from an acting or musical theatre degree and the auditions coincide with your showcase dates, you are welcome to contact us to discuss your specific situation.
About the Auditions
Initial auditions will be held one at a time – you will need to perform a short monologue provided in advance by Brainstorm and sing ‘Happy Birthday’ unaccompanied. These auditions will be filmed for later reference.
Please arrive a few minutes early to complete application forms prior to your audition. You will be asked for information about your driving record, your availability for the coming season, some medical history and your employment history, experience and training.
You or your agent will be advised that day if you are required for callback and to make a time.
Callbacks are in groups of 4-5. You will be asked to demonstrate ability to move/dance etc depending on the role(s) we are considering you for. You will also be asked to improvise a variety of scenarios including some school-based situations. No accompaniment for singing and dancing please.

Please note late applications cannot be accepted.
If your application proceeds to an audition you will be contacted by Wed 6th November (Brisbane), or Mon 11th November (Melbourne and Sydney) to allocate audition times.
You will be notified by phone or email by the 18th December 2019 if you have been cast or if you are unsuccessful. If you are represented by an agent, we will notify you through them.
If you are shortlisted:
- Before an offer of employment is made you will be asked to provide a Service NSW, QLD Roads or VIC Roads print out of your driving record.
- We will require your permission to conduct a mandatory criminal record check for any history of violence or sexual based offences to provide you with a Working With Children Check number.
- Some individual schools may require us to supply them with your full name, date of birth and Working With Children Check number - this is a requirement of your ongoing employment with Brainstorm Productions.
PLEASE NOTE: It is an offence under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 for a person convicted of a serious sex offence or child related personal violence to apply for these positions.
Roles for 2020 Season
All roles require actors with a playing range of 16 - 24 years. However, you need to be at least 19 years old so that you have at least one year driving experience, can show a good driving record and have the maturity to cope with touring.
All our shows are two-handers except 'Cheap Thrills' which is a one-man show.
Please click on the tabs above for details of all 'Male Roles' and 'Female Roles' in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The contract overview for each role is an estimate only, but should be reasonably accurate - actual weeks will depend on bookings received.
We will cast 13 actors for the 2020 season:
7 male actors (1 Brisbane, 2 Melbourne, and 4 Sydney based)
6 female actors (1 Brisbane, 2 Melbourne, and 3 Sydney based)
Please let us know if you wish to be considered for roles in other cities, if it eventuates that we are unable to offer you a role in the city you currently reside in. For example, if you currently live in Brisbane, please let us know if you also wish to be considered for Sydney- and/or Melbourne-based roles if we are unable to offer you a Brisbane-based role. If you do wish to be considered for roles based in another city, please also familiarise yourself with the roles being cast in that city before you attend the audition, as well as the roles being cast in your current city.
